The cause of her death is cited as a result of an ongoing battle with breast cancer. One of a clan of actors, Redgrave rose to fame with UK classics like Tom Jones and Georgy Girl, for which she earned an Academy Award nomination. A frequent player in London's West End and on Broadway, Redgrave made a triumphant return to film in the 1990's with featured roles in acclaimed movies such as Shine and Gods and Monsters. She recently put on a one-woman show entitled Nightingale in the wake of her 2003 mastectomy.
